The Dhabba’s coffee inspired curry…

You might say you’re a caffeine addict, but how much do you really love your coffee? Enough to have it in a curry?

A Glasgow restaurant has come up with a unique coffee curry to celebrate International Coffee Day on Thursday.

Candleriggs restaurant The Dhabba worked with its chefs to concoct a Chicken Coffee Tikka which brings out the natural blend of spices used to make one of your favourite curries.

It might sound like a weird combo but it makes sense to mix in the richly flavoured coffee beans to offset the spice and creaminess of the tikka dish.

For The Dhabba’s dish, a double espresso coffee shot and crushed coffee beans were added to the mix of coriander, cardamom, gram masala, ginger, chillis, yoghurt and garlic along with a few other secret ingredients to make the tasty chicken dish.

Restaurant manager Arun Makhin said: “India is known for its riches in spices and the flavours blend really well to give our customers a delicious dish.

“In the same way that dark chocolate and chilli have become an unlikely pairing, the spices we use to make a curry blend really well with a good quality coffee to make a really tasty dish. It’s available for one day only, and will definitely give your day an extra boost.”

From caffeinated to decaf, dark and bitter or milky and sweet, we all love to have that daily dose of caffeine.

On International Coffee Day the UK will drink a staggering 55 million cups of coffee – is this up your street? Let us know!
