KitKat’s latest Japan-exclusive flavour is… graham crackers?
The latest KitKat to hit the shelves in Japan features whole wheat biscuits
KitKat in Japan is in a league of its own, with countless seasonal flavours, regional varieties and special limited editions you won’t find anywhere else. Japan’s even got dedicated KitKat stores known as KitKat Chocolatory; in Tokyo, you’ll find one in Ginza (this even has a cafe!) and another at Miyashita Park.
While we’re used to seeing unusual KitKat flavours like wasabi and even Scotch whisky-infused chocolate bars, KitKat’s newest release took us by surprise. Called the KitKat Mini Whole Wheat Flour Biscuit In, this new KitKat mini bar is made with whole wheat flour biscuits.
While we have yet to try the new flavour ourselves, we imagine it would taste similar to a wholesome digestive biscuit, as the packaging shows an image of a whole wheat biscuit similar to a graham cracker.
The new KitKat also incorporates whole wheat biscuit crumbs into the chocolate coating for extra crunch and texture.
With this new KitKat, Nestlé announced that it will release more KitKat products in the near future made with better ingredients and less sugar without compromising the classic KitKat flavour.
The new whole wheat KitKat is now on sale at supermarkets, drugstores and convenience stores nationwide. It comes in a three-piece box (¥129) as well as an 11- (¥324) and 13-piece (¥540) bag.
