Low- and no-sugar products are trending in recent food and beverage innovation.
The Hershey Co.’s One Brands business is debuting a new Butter Pecan One Bar. Featuring a soft, buttery inside with chunks of pecans, the gluten-free protein bar contains 20 grams of protein and just 1 gram of sugar.
Bang Energy is bolstering its energy drink portfolio with a new flavor: Radical Skadattle. The zero-calorie, zero-sugar beverage is made with the company’s Super Creatine blend and nine essential amino acid. Each 16-oz can contains 300 mg of caffeine.
Sweet Baby Ray’s is rolling out Ray’s No Sugar Added, a line of low-sugar and low-carb barbecue sauces. Containing 1 gram of sugar and 1 grab of net carbs per serving, the sauces are sweetened with allulose and come in original and hickory varieties.
“We’ve landed on a No Sugar Added recipe that’s gluten free, vegan, vegetarian, keto-friendly — and actually worth eating,” said Tom Murphy, vice president of brand marketing for Sweet Baby Ray’s. “While other low-sugar and sugar-free sauces deliver runny texture and synthetic flavors, the Ray’s recipe was forged in the grill pits of Sweet Baby Ray’s using naturally sweet US-grown tomatoes. It’s perfect for brushing on ribs, coating on chicken or dipping tenders.”
Swerve has unveiled a new brownie mix sweetened with its namesake zero-calorie sugar replacement made with erythritol, prebiotic fiber and citrus. The grain-free, keto-friendly, non-GMO mix is made with blanched almond flour, cocoa, organic coconut flour, tapioca starch, organic coconut flour, sea salt and baking soda.
“We are living in a time when people are focused on healthy living but are also searching for ways to stay busy and calm at home,” said Andress Blackwell, president and chief executive officer of Swerve. “Baking is a joyous activity the whole family can participate in. Our mission is to let people have their favorite treats and good health too. We are grateful to have the opportunity to add a little sweetness into the lives of our fans with the introduction of this new better-for-you brownie mix.”
