FRAGRANCES

By Sophie Clark

From caviar-laced colognes to edamame eau de toilettes, your cologne collection just got a lot tastier

“The gourmand category is a fairly new concept,” explains Rushikesh Patel, cofounder of Panah London. “[Gourmand fragrances] are created by constructing edible accords, such as chocolate, vanilla, fresh herbs and fruits or even Champagne and brandy.” But balance is key in order to avoid a fragrance that is too cloying. “It’s a concept that involves superior perfume blending skills. At Panah London, our master perfumer Kedra Hart uses artisan methods of blending and extracting that can take up to two months.” And the results are well worth the wait. A collection of mouthwatering, unusual creations, such as Brandied Pear and Gourmantic Orange, are perfect for freshening up any perfume repertoire.

Whether you’re looking for something spicy and warming or sweet and comforting, here are six food-inspired fragrances to get your taste buds going.

Orange

Panah London Gourmantic Orange, £89. panahlondon.com

This unique scent offers a zesty spritz of candied orange intensified with chocolate and comforting vanilla. It’s also patented with a slow-release technology, meaning the fragrance is released in short intervals over time for a long-lasting effect. This is the scent that keeps on giving.

Pepper

Molton Brown Fiery Pink Pepper, £110. moltonbrown.co.uk

An aromatic journey via notes of pink pepper, ginger and tangerine, this Molton Brown fragrance has a curious heart. It’s delicately balanced with a spicy edge. Mist over pulse points for an energising pick-me-up throughout the day.

Vanilla

L’Artisan Parfumer Couleur Vanille, £124. artisanparfumeur.com

This dreamy fragrance is a scent story of raw botanicals that’ll transport you to the island of Madagascar in one spray. With notes of vanilla that at first takes centre stage, Couleur Vanille wears off into an unexpected darker, slightly spicy aroma.

Coffee

Floral Street Ylang Ylang Espresso, £60. floralstreet.com

This is a fragrance to get lost in. As it settles on your skin expect an electric wave of espresso beans and sichuan pepper calmed with notes of red rose and jasmine. This is a scent for the fearless.

Rum

Malin & Goetz Dark Rum, £75. At Space NK. spacenk.com

Sweetened ripe plum, crisp bergamot and rich notes of leather and rum: this fragrance has plenty of character. The intoxicating blend is reminiscent of long days under the sun and late nights with friends.

Blackcurrant

Creed Aventus, £185. creedfragrances.co.uk

This classic fragrance you are no doubt already familiar with. It boasts notes of blackcurrant, pineapple and calville blanc apples expertly blended with sensual bergamot. This modern composition of ingredients is a great conversation starter.
