“This is very unique and hopefully successful event. It’s the first of its kind to come to the Pocono area,” said Elizabeth Blose, regional coordinator, event planning and logistics for the Pocono Chamber of Commerce. “This event will feature all things pickles — menu items, crafts, vendors and more.”
The event was created to try to bring a new and fun festival to East Stroudsburg and to bring the community and tourists to the area together during East Stroudsburg University’s annual family weekend. A portion of the festival proceeds will benefit the Eastburg Community Alliance and 1% for Nature.
More than 35 vendors are signed up to attend with a variety of pickle-flavored foods, crafts and more.
Grandpa Joe’s Candy Shop in Stroudsburg will be one of the vendors and will be bringing some unique pickle flavored foods and drinks.
“We will be bringing pickle soda, pickle flavored cotton candy and chocolate covered pickle Oreos,” said owner Christopher Beers. “We take our business very seriously. When I come up with a new invention, we do it right. We make sure it’s right, and that we can sell a ton of it.”
Beers sold more than 25,000 tubs of pickle cotton candy in the first year that he offered it. His candy store is known for unique flavors, and pickle soda is definitely one of them.
“We took a serious approach to this. We wanted to make a more serious craft soda where you can drink the whole bottle and say it was refreshing and tasted like pickles,” he said. “It’s like a Sprite with a pickle flavor; not like drinking pickle juice itself.”
Pocono Soap of Stroudsburg will also be one of the vendors featuring something pickle related.
“We’re going to feature dill pickle lip balm and pickle shower bombs. We are also going to be selling our classic soap scents there as well,” said Amanda Beam, manager. “When we heard about the pickle theme, we knew we wanted to be a part of this. Pickles are really on trend right now, and we knew we could create some fun pickle-scented products to add to the fun.”
Other vendors will be bringing pickle ice cream, pickle muffins, fried pickles, pickle burgers and more. There will be a variety of pickle crafts and fun activities throughout the day. Some activities include: a pickle toss, pickle-eating contest and a homemade pickle contest.
“We will have a beer garden with craft brews and wine, and The Gherkin Garden with children’s activities, carnival games, corn hole, and more.”
