Farmers make transition from conventional to organic crops

Dave Ross, sales and operation manager with Great Harvest Organics, which is a brand of Becks Hybrids, said that when a farmer is deciding whether they want to transition some or all of their conventional acreage into organic production, they should consider the market and who their potential consumers would be.

He said the potential markets break up into two categories: baby boomers versus millennials. Boomers are individuals who are 55 or older, no longer have multiple mouths to feed, less overhead cost and don’t consume as much, while millennials are a large, diverse group of individuals who prefer to rent homes over buying them, only own one car, want to live life their way and food spending is part of that life.
