Remember Karen from Brighton? Well, Timboon Fine Ice Cream has created a line-up of COVID-inspired flavours, including ‘The Karen from Briiiighton’.
2020 has been a tough year, especially for Victorians and with lockdown, we’ve seen the rise of several trends from sourdough baking and wine drinking.
To celebrate their 21st birthday, Timboon Fine Ice cream has brought a little lightheartedness to the situation by releasing three COVID-inspired ice cream flavours to their range.
The tough restrictions around the country caused a lot of ‘Karen’s’ to appear and one in particular went viral on social media. Jodi Grollo was interviewed on Channel 9 during her walk around Melbourne’s Botanic Gardens and was asked about the new restrictions. She said,
“Well, you get sick of walking the same streets… You know, I’ve done all of Brighton.”
She was then infamously dubbed ‘Karen from Brighton.’
What’s a Karen? Urban Dictionary defines ‘A Karen’ as:
A Karen is a kind of person who is unhappy when little things don’t go their way. They are a, “Can I speak to your manager?” kind of gal. The b*****y soccer mom of her friend group that nobody likes. “Do you see her over there? She’s such a Karen.”
What would a Karen ice cream taste like you ask? Well, ‘The Karen from Briiiighton’ is a “bitter orange marmalade flavour perfectly balanced by creamy vanilla.”
Their second flavour, the ‘Same Same, but Sourdough’ has an oven-baked caramelised sourdough crumb folded through deliciously creamy Vanilla.
Lastly, ’The Tipsy’ has a classic Grampians Estate Shiraz reduction, swirled through vanilla bean ice cream. Yum!
Tim Marwood, founder of the ice creamery and third generation diary farmer said about the new flavours:
“Many birthdays look a little different this year and we wanted to have fun with ours. We hope our new Covid-inspired flavours will bring a smile to ice cream lovers everywhere!”
Tim and his wife Caroline have been making their famous ice cream on their property 7km from Timboon for the last 21 years and their iconic brand is now sold at 80+ gourmet stores and IGA’s across Victoria, five mobile event vans and two regional concept stores.
“Our ice cream is churned with milk directly from the neighbour’s farm, cream fresh from our local dairy, more local ingredients…and love. It’s what makes our ice-cream a true ice cream experience.” says Tim.
